Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, one of the most widely used cosmetic surgeries, can eliminate issues related to the bone and cartilage of the nose.

In Which Situations Is Rhinoplasty Applied?

A rhinoplasty can be done to rectify breathing difficulties caused by a dysfunctional nose structure, restore damage caused by accidents, or correct various deformities.

  • Change in nose size,
  • Regulation of the nose angle,
  • Flattening the bridge of the nose,
  • Reshaping the tip of the nose,
  • Narrowing of the nostrils.

In cases of rhinoplasty operations aiming to improve the appearance of the nose, the average age for women is 15 while men may be slightly older. However, when performed to treat a health condition such as respiratory problems, it can be done at an earlier age. In any case, nasal bone growth should be taken into consideration.

How is Rhinoplasty (Nose Aesthetics) Procedure Performed?

A doctor can perform a rhinoplasty in a hospital or clinic with the necessary facilities. Depending on the patient, general anesthesia or sedation may be given during the operation. For simpler processes, sedation anesthesia is typically employed to numb the nose and face.

Typically, rhinoplasty procedures require 2 to 3 hours, varying in complexity.

Healing Process After Rhinoplasty

After surgery, patients should be accompanied by a companion when leaving the hospital, as anesthesia was administered during the procedure. For minor operations, one day of surveillance is sufficient; however, more complicated surgeries may necessitate an extended stay in the facility - up to two days.

Splints placed after surgery should be left in place for about a week to ensure the nose maintains its desired shape. Depending on the type of procedure, sutures may need to be removed by your physician within seven days or they may naturally dissolve on their own.

A specialist may prescribe painkillers to mitigate potential pain after the operation. For this reason, it is advisable to have a companion accompany the patient throughout their first night post-surgery, as medication administered during the procedure might produce undesired side effects.

  • Strenuous physical activities such as jogging
  • Swimming
  • Blowing the nose
  • Excessive chewing
  • Situations that require more movement in the facial muscles such as laughing
  • Pulling clothes over the head
  • Bringing the glasses over the nose
  • Intensive and vigorous brushing of teeth

It is advised to be mindful when it comes to being in the sun.

As a result of rhinoplasty, the area around the eyes could be temporarily numb, and might experience some swelling and discoloration. Utilizing cold compresses can assist in decreasing inflammation and darkening.

After a week, patients are typically able to resume their routines.
